how to buy a digital tv set
The DTV transition, the switch from analog to digital television, is approaching. Congress set the deadline of February 17, 2009 for the DTV transition. This means that on that date all U.S. television stations will stop broadcasting in analog format as they do now, and will transmit only in digital instead. Consumers will benefit from digital technology that will provide improved picture quality and sound quality like that experienced at the movies. As a consumer, what should you consider in the purchase of a TV set?

If you're thinking about purchasing a new digital TV set, please do your homework, as there are differences in the type of display (rear projection, plasma, liquid crystal, etc.) and many variations in size, clarity, and price.
Know how you're going to receive a digital signal. Your new set should have a built-in tuner. You may also need an antenna to receive free over-the-air signals. Also, please know that "digital" television is not necessarily the same as "high definition."
